Abbott & Lois’ signature assembly program is coming to Homeschooling Fun Club in Lombard!

Join us for professional comedic performances and interactive lessons. Then, it’s time for the kids to volunteer to come up on stage as we learn about acting, singing, lights, sound, backstage crew, and stage management, so we can put together one great big little play!

This event is absolutely free. We’d love to have you register so we know how many are coming!

Based on our popular summer camp, Play in a Day, this weekly course starts with the students writing their very own 5 to 10-minute play, which will be performed for the parents on the last day of class!

During the weeks in between, students will learn technical design; choose sound effects, choose lighting options, and craft their costumes. Plus, there’s acting and hilarious learning games!

Get ready to laugh out loud! Comedic Kids teaches the keys to comedic acting and opens up a world of creative exploration, as they craft their costume, lights, and sound designs for the final performance.

At the end of the last class, students will perform a signature Abbott & Lois short play that’s guaranteed to leave the audience in stitches.

Fee: $60/child. This is a 4-week course totalling 6 hours. More details about payment and the facility are located on the registration form.

Spend four hilarious weeks with us this fall! Every week, students will learn a fundamental of classical acting, then put their fundamental to use in cracking up the class with confidence.

At the end of the last class, there is a performance for the parents!

Pack a lunch and drop off for four hours of theater fun! Kids start the morning by writing their own 5-10 minute play and end the afternoon with a performance for the parents!

Students will learn technical design; choose sound effects, choose lighting options, and craft their costumes. Plus, there’s acting and hilarious learning games! It’s everything they could learn about theater all in one day! 

Fee: $30/child. Please send your child with a lunch.

You can’t do a play without teamwork! Students will gain hands-on experience in lights, sound, costume design, and stage management. And of course, there’s acting! Every student will study the fundamentals of Classical Acting.

Come showtime, watch your child shine in their own unique artistic way either on stage, in the booth, or managing the behind-the-scenes action in a full-scale mini production. The final class is 45 minutes, plus a 15-minute performance.

Fee: $130 resident/$140 non-resident

Fall semester Theater Arts combines classroom-style lessons in classical acting, technical design, and directing with practical learning through showcase productions.

Theater Arts is offered as a full year hybrid course, qualifying for 0.5 transcriptable Fine & Performing Arts credits per semester. 

Discover the ecosystem of artistry, skill, and collaboration that brings a play to life! In Session 1 of Theater Arts, every student will learn the fundamentals of Classical Acting and gain experience in technical design (lights, sound, costumes) before taking on one of many creative roles in our final production on the last day of class. In this class, students learn the value of teamwork, especially understanding that being “a star” is not based on visibility, study art as a discipline, and gain practice skills they can apply to any subject.

Session 2 runs Jan 19 through May 4, 2027 and is an Advanced Theater Arts class.

$130 per 13-week semester

From classical acting to light design, sound design, and costume construction, students learn it all in Theater Arts. This class combines classroom-style learning with hands-on experience for a unique study in the value of teamwork, confident decision-making, and creative expression. Come show time, each child shines in their own artistic way, either on stage, in the booth, or behind the scenes in a full-scale mini-production.

There’s nothing like the excitement that goes into putting on a play in six days. Every camper plays the role of both an actor and a technical designer (costumes, light, sound), gaining exposure to all the elements of putting on a show and the many different artistic talents they can contribute in theater.

At the end of the 6th class, see the creative input come together in a full-scale mini production.
